Twain's Vocal Music Program

Chorus:

Students in grades 4 and 5 may sign up to join Chorus at Mark Twain School. The audition is very simple and the students can sing any song of their choice. Chorus members meet once a week during the school day to learn how to sing professionally and musically. Singing lessons are taught by a highly qualified, credentialed music teacher from the Long Beach Unified School District. Chorus rehearsals are about an hour each week and students are required to make up the work that is missed in their regular classroom while they are in Chorus. Sign-ups happen in mid-September and instruction usually begins in late September. Students will perform two concerts per year, one in the winter and one in the spring toward the end of the school year.

Vocal Music General Classroom Lesson:

Vocal Music General Classroom lesson is provided to grade levels from Kindergarten through 4th as a part of our curriculum for 30 minutes. During the vocal music lessons, all students in the classroom will learn about music theory, music history and proper singing technique. Songs that are in the music book are mostly American folk songs and many multi- cultural songs from different parts of the world. Third-graders also learn how to play recorders along with the songs from the music curriculum book provided by the Long Beach Unified School District.
