WELCOME TO TWAIN!

Jacqueline Williams 02 - 2.jpg

Greetings Twain Families,

Let me begin by saying that I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to serve as Principal and work with the wonderful staff and community that is Twain Elementary School.  I have heard wonderful things about the families, teachers, classified staff, PTA, and community working together to provide an outstanding education for our students.

Teacher of the Year

Long Beach Council PTA is proud to continue the tradition of honoring an outstanding Teacher of Long Beach Unified School District each year. This award was created to recognize an outstanding teacher who implements creative and innovative ideas to enrich the learning experience of our children.

Twain PTA is requesting parents and/or students to participate and nominate an outstanding teacher by writing an essay. (Don’t worry; it doesn’t have to be a long one!) From all of the submissions that we receive at Twain, one essay will be chosen that answers the questions and follows the required guidelines listed on the reverse side of this page. The teacher nominated in the selected essay will be honored as Twain’s Teacher of the Year. The essay will then be forwarded to Long Beach Council PTA to compete against the winning essays from the other Long Beach Schools. The teacher nominated in the winning essay at the Long Beach Council level will be presented with a classroom grant and will be recognized at the Long Beach Council In and Out Luncheon in June.

Twain will have a Teacher Appreciation Luncheon in May celebrating ALL of our wonderful teachers and their commitment to our students.  The winning essay writer will have the opportunity to read their essay at our last PTA meeting of the year on May 13th.

Due Date for essay: MARCH 31ST (place in box in office) Download the form here.

Grandparents and Special Friends Day

Remember to pack a lunch!

Grandparents and special friends day! Friday, March 27th

  • Grandparents and Special Friends are invited to bring a picnic lunch to share with their Twain student(s) on this special day. Picnic tables and chairs will be set-up in the Quad on the West Side of campus for this lunchtime event.
  • Please be careful when parking for this event and do not park in areas where Friday street sweeping signs are posted. The city has been notified of our event and you will not be ticketed for parking on the streets in the "permit required" areas EXCEPT where Friday street sweeping signs (8 AM- Noon) are present.
  • A lot of thought went into the new format for celebrating Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day this year. Due to the new Common Core standards, assessment reports and the upcoming SBAC testing, we searched for a way to celebrate this special day without it having a big impact on instructional time for our students and teachers. We hope we found it and that this picnic event is an enjoyable time for all!

Change in Bylaws

Dear PTA Members,

Every (3) years the Mark Twain Elementary PTA is required to review our existing Bylaws and to identify proposed amendments.

Proposed Bylaw amendments are then submitted to The California State PTA Parliamentarian and once reviewed are returned to the Association.   The proposed amendments were shared in detail at the February PTA Association meeting. Please review the proposed amendments by clicking here

The Association will vote on the proposed amendments at the April Association meeting, and if approved,  these amendments will be adopted and will become part of our Bylaws.

Twain and Lowell Named Green Schools!

Green Award.jpg

Where are the greenest schools in America? Two of them are in Long Beach.

For the past five years, the U.S.  Department of Education has been trying to "inspire" schools to reduce their environmental impact and costs, improve the health and wellness of students and staff, and teach environmental skills. This year, Education Secretary Arne Duncan honored two Long Beach elementary schools with the Green Ribbon School Award. Read more.
