Twain Parents,

It's hard to believe that the 2014-2015 school year has come to an end and the 2015-2016 school year is already here. It seems like just yesterday, students and families were welcomed back to school and enjoying all of the activities sponsored by our amazing and supportive P.T.A. and our Dads of Great Students (D.O.G.S).

As I continue to reflect upon this past school year, I am humbled, grateful, and thankful for our awesome staff, parents, students, business partners, V.I.P.S., D.O.G.S., and of course, our awesome P.T.A. While our teachers were planning effective lessons and instructing students in accordance with the California Common Core Standards, our P.T.A. and D.O.G.S spent countless hours volunteering to fundraise and plan fun-filled activities for our Twain students and staff; our VIPS also spent numerous hours in classrooms assisting teachers with various classroom tasks. Without a doubt, Twain's staff and students are truly appreciative of these organizations' time and commitment to our students' learning and achievement.

It truly takes a village to encourage all students to learn, thrive, and achieve. This is evident by the hard work and commitment that our community puts forth each day to assist our students in educating the whole child.

Dr. Williams, Principal

Box Tops for Education

Calling all BOX TOPS! Thanks to Box Tops For Education, a quick snip of the scissors can earn money for our school. Look for box tops on items you already purchase, clip them out, and turn them into the Twain office throughout the year. You can follow this link for a list of participating products, or simply search your kitchen for the box top image below. Each box top earns ten cents, and they can really add up for our students. Our next submission deadline is February 25!

Traffic on Sunfield

Parents, please be cognizant of parking and pedestrians, especially during school hours.  This afternoon, it was reported that a truck's front end was sticking out in the roadway on Sunfield and several motorists came close to hitting the improperly parked vehicle.  It was also reported that another motorist came close to running into one of our parents walking across the street. Our goal is for us all to be safe at Twain, so please practice proper safety rules for motorists and pedestrians, especially in a school zone.

Coyote Sightings

Several parents have reported concern about coyotes in Long Beach.  At this time, we are working with School Safety to ensure that our students are safe at Mark Twain Elementary School.  If you happen to see a coyote near our school during school hours, please contact our school's office so we can contact the appropriate agencies.  For more information about safety and prevention, please visit this link.
