WELCOME TO TWAIN!

Jacqueline Williams 02 - 2.jpg

Greetings Twain Families,

Let me begin by saying that I am excited and honored to have the opportunity to serve as Principal and work with the wonderful staff and community that is Twain Elementary School.  I have heard wonderful things about the families, teachers, classified staff, PTA, and community working together to provide an outstanding education for our students.

summer snippets

We hope that all Twain students and their families are enjoying a wonderful summer! School will resume on Wednesday, September 2. This first day of school will be a minimum day. You can find the bell schedule for minimum days here. All kindergarteners will be on the Early Bird schedule until notified otherwise.

Parents of incoming kindergarteners, please save the date for our Kindergarten BBQ on August 31. This will be a fun opportunity to meet our kindergarten teachers and your child’s classmates while learning more about Twain and what you can expect during their first year here. Check back later in the summer for additional details.

Keeping the arts alive!

"Let Your Imagination Fly" is the 2015-2016 PTA Reflections theme.  Summer is a great time to work on your project.  3D visual art is a new category this year, see the links at the right for submission guidelines and participation forms.  Fall workshops will be provided as well. Project deadline is October 23rd.  Contact Jennifer Hersch at jenhersch@gmail.com for questions.

after school supervision 2015-2016

Thank you to all of our parents who assisted us with funding the after school supervision program for the 2014-2015 school year.  It's because of your assistance we were able to keep this program up and running for the 2014-15 school year.

Currently, our funds will only allow us to keep this program for the Fall Semester (September 2015 - December 2015).

If you would like to keep this service available for the Spring Semester (January 2016 - June 2016), please think about donating money so that we can have after school supervision coverage for the entire school year.

For your convenience, I will send home a letter one day next week that will outline the donation process for the 2015-2016 school year.

Thank you, Jacqueline Williams, Ed.D., Principal

2014-2015 Teacher of the Year

Change in Bylaws

Dear PTA Members,

Every (3) years the Mark Twain Elementary PTA is required to review our existing Bylaws and to identify proposed amendments.

Proposed Bylaw amendments are then submitted to The California State PTA Parliamentarian and once reviewed are returned to the Association.   The proposed amendments were shared in detail at the February PTA Association meeting. Please review the proposed amendments by clicking here

The Association will vote on the proposed amendments at the April Association meeting, and if approved,  these amendments will be adopted and will become part of our Bylaws.

Twain and Lowell Named Green Schools!

Green Award.jpg

Where are the greenest schools in America? Two of them are in Long Beach.

For the past five years, the U.S.  Department of Education has been trying to "inspire" schools to reduce their environmental impact and costs, improve the health and wellness of students and staff, and teach environmental skills. This year, Education Secretary Arne Duncan honored two Long Beach elementary schools with the Green Ribbon School Award. Read more.

Thanks to Everyone Who Came Out for the Education Celebration
