Message from Dr. Williams
Dear Parents, Faculty, and Staff:
As Principal of Twain Elementary, I enthusiastically welcome back our returning Twain families and staff members. I would also like to take a moment to welcome our new families and staff members into our awesome Twain family. Although our new staff members are new to Twain, each one of them comes to Twain with numerous years of teaching experience in Long Beach Unified School District. At Twain we are known for working together as a family, and I know that our Twain community will excitedly welcome our new families and staff members into our existing Twain family. The next time you are on campus, please join me in welcoming our new staff members...

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING DISMISSAL TIMES, AFTER SCHOOL CARE AND PAN AM PARK
Twain offers after school supervision from 2:05 pm until 2:50 pm on Twain's blacktop Monday-Friday. On district wide minimum days, there is no after school supervision. When there is a district wide minimum day and school is dismissed at 1:00 pm, parents are provided with advanced notice that there will be no after school supervision on that day. A district wide minimum day is not the same as our regular Thursday dismissal at 1:30 pm. When students are dismissed on Thursdays at 1:30 pm, Twain does offer supervised after school care until 2:50 pm.
If parents choose to utilize Pan Am Park for their after school care arrangement, please be mindful that Monday - Friday, the park does not open its doors until 2:30 pm. This means children are unsupervised from the time that they are dismissed from Twain until the time that Pan Am Park provides supervision. Although this seems like a short period of time, many things can happen in a span of 20 minutes when supervision is nonexistent. On Thursdays when Twain dismisses at 1:30 pm, the park DOES open its doors for supervised after school care at 1:30 pm.

Twain PTA: Financial Policies, Procedures and Documents
To review recently uploaded documents related to PTA monetary policies and the handling of PTA funds, please visit our PTA page and scroll down. The documents are intended to be of use to those collecting and distributing PTA funds, as well as those seeking reimbursement from the PTA. Questions can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Box Tops for Education
Calling all BOX TOPS! Thanks to Box Tops For Education, a quick snip of the scissors can earn money for our school. Look for box tops on items you already purchase, clip them out, and turn them into the Twain office throughout the year. You can follow this link for a list of participating products, or simply search your kitchen for the box top image below. Each box top earns ten cents, and they can really add up for our students. For questions about Box Tops for Education, please contact email@example.com.
If you have any extra plastic hangers, we can use them! We also need donations of large pants (size 14-16). Even sweat pants will work. Please bring donations to the box in the office or drop off in the PTA room. Thank you!!
Parent-Student Handbook: Clarification and Updates
In reference to the Parent-Student Handbook, please make note of the following:
(1) The Safe and Civil form is on yellow paper.
(2) The Consent and Release from Liability is not included in the packet. The Consent and Release from Liability is already on file in the office for all returning Twain students and students new to Twain.
(3) Please disregard the note about Prep Day Differences on the Bell Schedule.
(4) An "Emergency Card Print Out" page was not included in the packet. Parents must access ParentVue to update emergency information.
(5) Erica Dawson is last year's President; Star Behain is our current PTA President.
After School Care
Since we did not secure enough funds to have after school supervision for the 2016-2017 school year, starting on September 1st, 2016 all students in grades 1-5 must be picked up on or before 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday. Since TK/Kinder students adhere to a different bell schedule throughout the school year - Early Bird/Late Bird - Kinder teachers will be in communication with Kinder parents about the Early Bird/Late Bird schedules.

Twain Named Star School!
Check out what our D.O.G.S. are doing!
Several parents have reported concern about coyotes in Long Beach. At this time, we are working with School Safety to ensure that our students are safe at Mark Twain Elementary School. If you happen to see a coyote near our school during school hours, please contact our school's office so we can contact the appropriate agencies. For more information about safety and prevention, please visit this link.
The Long Beach Public Library will offer an amnesty program for overdue book fines during the month of April, in celebration of National Library Month. From April 1 to April 30 the library will welcome back its overdue books and waive associated fines. Return any undamaged, overdue library materials to your local Long Beach Public Library location, and your overdue fines will be waived. If you have overdue fines from previously returned materials, donate a new book to the library and those fines will be waived, too. For more information, visit the Long Beach Public Library in person or online at www.lbpl.org.
